Just got your Sony A7R V? Before you start shooting, there are a few key settings you should adjust to optimize your experience.

Photo & Video Setup:

  1. Increase Power Temperature Setting – Go to Menu > Setup > Power Setting Option > Auto Power Off Temp and set it to High to prevent overheating.

  2. Enable Image Stabilization – Under Shooting > SteadyShot, turn it On for sharper handheld shots.

  3. Use the Rule of Thirds Grid – Navigate to Shooting > Shooting Display > Grid Line Display and set it to Rule of Thirds for better composition.

  4. Set Continuous Autofocus – Under Focus > AF/MF > Focus Mode, select Continuous AF (AFC) for smooth tracking in both photo and video modes.

  5. Enable AFC Area Display – Turn on Focus > AFC Area Display to visualize your autofocus points in real time.

Video-Specific Settings:

  1. Enable APS-C Super 35 Mode – Go to Shooting > Image Quality > APS-C/Super 35 Shooting and set it to Auto for seamless switching when using APS-C lenses.

  2. Set Lens Compensation to Auto – Under Shooting > Lens Compensation, enable Auto for in-camera lens corrections, including breathing compensation.

  3. Turn Off Wind Noise Reduction – Navigate to Shooting > Audio Recording > Wind Noise Reduction and turn it Off to avoid poor-quality noise filtering.

  4. Enable Emphasized Recording Display – In Shooting > Shooting Display > Emphasized Recording Display, turn it On for a clear red border when recording video.

  5. Activate AF Assist – Under Focus > AF/MF > AF Assist, enable it for smoother manual focus adjustments during autofocus.

These simple tweaks will help you get the most out of your Sony A7R V right from the start! Let me know in the comments if you have any other go-to settings. 🎥📷
